Imagine if someone understood the dustiest and darkest parts of you.

You sit scared, behind your computer screen
typing with trembling hands everything you've ever wanted to say
it's finally out, no longer held captive for safe keeping,
but something stops you from proceeding to send it -
a moment of still fear creeps over your skin
and paralyzes your index finger from pressing, 'send'
You think perhaps you aren't good enough,
or that perceptions will change, and things will never stand the same
but it's more than that
you've stopped yourself not because you'll become vulnerable and exposed,
or because that person you're hoping to express yourself to will mock you- no....
You've stopped because once you take that veil down, a million more come down along with it
and the person on the other side won't run away with terror or disgust:
Instead, they'll walk towards you, take your hand, place it over their heart and say,
"I know, I've always known"
